ALLYSON AMES
President, Co-Founder & Chief Chef
Wonderland Bakery & Wonderland Bakery Adventure
Allyson Ames serves as president, co-founder and chief chef for Wonderland Bakery and Wonderland Bakery Adventure, a position that she has held since the bakery’s opening in fall 2005. Wonderland Bakery is a unique retail bakery concept specializing in cupcakes, cookies, cakes, artistic desserts and whimsical gifts. An enchanting mix of equal parts Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, Candyland, Alice’s Wonderland and the Land of Oz,
Wonderland Bakery celebrated its fourth birthday on Oct. 1, 2009.
At just 24-years-old, Ames is a sizzling young entrepreneur who has captured the imaginations and taste buds of an ever-increasing list of fans, including dignitaries, professional athletes, celebrities, musicians and, most importantly, the everyday lover of baked goodies and whimsy.
Along with her business partner and mother, Sondra Ames, Ames has accomplished more than most her age and brings artistic inspiration and culinary expertise to everything she creates in the her kitchen.
Born and raised in Newport Beach, Calif., Ames is a culinary prodigy who started cooking and baking at age five, was named The Best Young Chef in America at age 17. She is the Official Sweet Ambassador for Newport Beach and has been tapped by Variety magazine’s Power of Youth to participate in the group of Hollywood celebrities under the age of 25.
Most recently, she was named one of the richest kids in America by Mark Victor Hansen, respected authority in the area of human potential and co-creator of the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul series.
“It began with collecting cookbooks, watching food shows and creating food combinations and concoctions,” said Ames. “I was learning techniques, pairing foods, blending flavors, presenting my creations, eating and having fun. I now can reflect on this time and understand I was beginning to connect to my life passion – expressing myself through the creativity of food.”
She has created cookies for President Barack Obama’s inauguration day events, baked the reigning “Best Gingerbread Cookie” according to Whoopi Goldberg and “The View” and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger honored Wonderland Bakery with the 2008 California Business of the Year Award. Ames is often called on to perform her artistic culinary talents for a variety of signature events including the Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards and movie premieres.
Her brand includes a collection of “Bake Memories at Home” desserts, a mesmerizing line of merchandise, a best-selling book and an animated Wonderland bear by Gund.
In late 2009, Ames and Wonderland Bakery will commence an expansion plan that includes 50 whimsically designed in-store, point-of-sale displays that will be placed in retail locations from coast to coast, including international airports. She is in negotiations to host a children's cooking show; internationally license the Wonderland Bakery brand of toys, games and products; and open five Wonderland Bakery Wonderlicious party, cafe and retail stores in major markets, with the first stores in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York.
After high school, Allyson attended the International Culinary Art Institute of America and is currently working on her undergraduate degree in food science and nutrition. She has been awarded the Teen Merit Leadership Foundation Award, the Entrepreneur Business Program Scholarship Award and is the only person ever to receive the Orange County Business Journal’s Up and Coming Woman of Excellence in Business Award. She has apprenticed with the Culinary Olympics in Germany and received the American Culinary Federation National Championship Award.
An active philanthropist, Ames and her mother have established the Thanks a Million Cookies and Cupcakes Foundation, which contributes to countless organizations and causes. Allyson is recognized as a mentor and inspirational role model for other young girls and future entrepreneurs who want to create and follow their dream.ALLYSON AMES President, Co-Founder & Chief Chef Wonderland Bakery & Wonderland Bakery Adventure
